Journey of Emily: From Creative Director to Conscious CEO

During Untapped Mastery Emily Peilan has transitioned from a solo creative freelancer, into the role of Conscious CEO at Aroha Visuals. Over this six months, her focus shifted from hands-on tasks to strategic leadership. Guiding the company's vision and setting long-term goals now occupy her efforts, as she mentors her team, delves into financial planning, and explores innovative opportunities. This transformation, while challenging, demonstrates her commitment to fostering positive change in both her business and herself.

“The challenges and overwhelm that come with growth are often signs that you're pushing your boundaries and moving forward. It's important to remember that growth rarely happens without some discomfort and that it's okay to seek support, both in terms of mentorship and community.”

In her interview on the Untapped Podcast Emily emphasises the imporantance of connecting with like-minded individuals who are on similar journeys can provide valuable insights, accountability, and a sense of belonging. She found this deep connect and community in the Untapped Mastery community.

3 Key Business Learnings Emily learnt in Untapped Mastery that supported this transition from solo creator to Conscious CEO:

  1. Shift in Mindset about Sales and Leadership: Emily talked about how she had initially struggled with the idea of ‘being a leader’ and ‘selling her services’. She used to shy away from leadership and sales due to her concerns about being percieved as bossy and not wanting to use others' time to make more money. However, she experienced a significant mindset shift, realizing that leadership is about supporting and helping others, and that sales can be a form of service. This change in perspective allowed her to embrace her role as a leader and engage in sales more authentically.

  2. Value-Based Sales and Authentic Connection: Emily emphasized the importance of value-based sales and authentic connections. She mentioned that she shifted her approach from traditional sales pitches to providing value and building relationships through Untapped Sales is Service Training and Philosophy. She realized that connecting with people, offering free value, and genuinely helping them with their challenges can lead to meaningful connections and potential business opportunities. This approach also allowed her to feel more aligned with selling and to view it as a way of offering assistance.

  3. Community and Support in Growth: Emily highlighted the significance of community and support in her entrepreneurial journey. She discussed how loneliness and burnout can be challenging aspects of entrepreneurship, particularly when working on your own. However, finding a supportive community of like-minded individuals can provide accountability, feedback, and inspiration. Emily shared how being part of the Untapped Mastery community allowed her to connect with others, gain valuable insights, and overcome obstacles more effectively.

Emily shares with you that each journey is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Embrace the challenges, learn from them, and keep moving forward towards your goals, while also taking care of your own mental, emotional, and physical health.
